Team Building Activity:

What Can You Do with This?

(This activity will help your team to begin to feel more comforable around one another and for everyone to give input when in group discussion.)

Materials: Any odd objects you can find, Paper, Pens or Pencils.

Select an odd object that can have many uses (the more unique the better) and place it in a paper bag.
Divide the team into half and give each group a paper and pencil.  Pull the object out of the bag and instruct each group to make a list of all the things that it could be used for - and be creative!
Give a time limit.  At the end of the time have the groups come together and share their lists.  You can give points for original ideas or no points at all and just laugh at all the crazy ideas.

Instant Challenge:

wHAT's tHAT?

Supplies: 7 sheets of newspaper, 7 mailing labels, 1 roll of adding machine tape, crepe paper, or toilet paper.

Part I: Design 7 hats using the materials provided.

Part II: Create and perform a humorous skit using all 7 hats.
You decide how much time the team has to create the hats, create the skit, and present its performance.

Find out about this year's DI Challenges!

Your team can build a structure and skit from "news worthy" materials and events.  Or you can pool your super problem-solving powers to save a something threatened and you won't believe what's on the list! Or your team can change audience members' minds with a flip of the wrist or any other puppet characters.  Or maybe your team will create a DI-Bot that makes the world a better place. Or maybe your team will decide to design a piece of equipment that can deliver supplies to a target over a barrier.

Whew! But wait, there's more! Check out the ways your students can Band Together to solve a challenge, help their community and dance to the music of their choice! There is no end to the opportunities to put team interests and talents together to make a better world.  And, as always, it's just plan fun!  Check out the complete Challenge Summaries on the Montana DI website.

We're with you all the way!

The DI Regional Director in your area is ready to answer your questions.  Check out the Montana Destination ImagiNation calendar for recruiting, training, and team building events in your area.  Don't forget to put the regional showcase and State Championship Tournament on your team member's calendars.  It's not just a tournament; it is a year-long learning experience for students and the adults who are supporting them.  These dates will be continually updated as they are scheduled.

Ask MTDI

Do you have a question about Destination ImagiNation but do not want to call someone?  Are you having trouble finding a rule? Do you need to know where your team can find information.  Do you need advice on how to handle a difficult situation with your team?  Then ask MTDI.  Send your questions to askmtdi@mt-di.org This e-mail address is set up just for you to ask questions - big and small.  We will try to answer your questions within 48 hours.  We will also have a 1/2 to 1 hour conference call every two weeks to answer frequently asked questions and have an open forum for team managers to learn and share.  Stay tuned for more information on these conference calls.
